Wii U GamePad The Best Hardcore Nintendo Controller Yet According To Pitchford

Posted on Wednesday, October 31 @ 13:38:02 Eastern by Alex_Osborn

Nintendo fanboys aren't the only ones drooling over the company's new tablet controller, as Gearbox Software's Randy Pitchford recently expressed his excitement in the device as well. “This is the best controller Nintendo’s ever made for making an FPS. This is the best controller Nintendo has ever given us for playing hardcore games,” he told Joystiq when discussing the Wii U version of Aliens: Colonial Marines.

“With the Wii U they (Nintendo) committed themselves to this promise. So the link is direct, fast and immediate. Things like SmartGlass and Vita, they appreciate the value of the promise so they’re making the promise. But they’re not in with such commitment,” he added.

Does this mean we'll be seeing more Wii U support from Gearbox in the future? Does bringing Borderlands 2 to the console sound like a logical step? Sound off with your thoughts in the comments below.

If Nintendo can do something positive with their new online gaming community not only could Borderlands 2 be great on the Wii U, it could be a proving ground for how Nintendo has un-****ed their years of bass ackwards online gaming. That is a big IF.

I played with the Wii U and the controller today for the first time and I can say that the controller is incredible. It is surprisingly ergonomic, and the screen is clear, sharp, and resonsive. I was very impressed by it, and I am really excited about the experiences the Wii U gamepad will bring.

I thought much the same thing. And since the Gamepad is just a standard dual analog controller with a touch screen and motion controllers added in, developers shouldn't have any trouble making games with it. They're used to that controller setup, after all.

Yes, I believe Nintendo may have yet again opened the doorway to bright ideas and cheap ripoffs alike.

The Wii U might do great, but eventually in doing so MS and Sony will just have to copy the idea and pair it with much more powerful hardware and then what will Nintendo do? That scenario could be as soon as next year so again Nintendo will have to rely solely on the power of its franchises.

Microsoft tried to copy Nintendo with the Kinect and yet it couldn't get the same casual market, so don't count on them copying Nintendo again and succeeding.

Ditto Sony with the Move. That said, I'm not prepared to write them off quite yet.

I feel like Microsoft has already probably been experimenting in this area. They just released that app that lets you control your 360 from your tablet or phone. What's to say there won't be an attachment for their Microsoft branded tablets that gives you joysticks and buttons and lets you play your 360 games with it?
