Wii U Sells 400K Units In Its First Week

Nintendo has confirmed that it sold 400,000 units of the Wii U during its launch week in the United States, which is a bit short of its 475,000 units sold when the Wii launched in 2006. However, Nintendo is quite pleased with this news, as according to them, that is approximately how many units they released in the first place.

"Wii U is essentially sold out of retail and we are doing our best to continually replenish stock," Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime said in an interview with CNET. "Retailers are also doing their best to get the product to store shelves. But as soon as product hits retail, they're selling out immediately."

In other news, Nintendo sold almost as many Wii units last week (300,000) and more DS units than 3DS units. I suppose people either prefer the old over the new or just like spending less money. Discuss.

    Every store I have been in since the launch has Wii U's in stock. Wal Mart, Target, Best Buy even a Gamestop had five. I'm note sure what their definition of selling out is. Trying to appease stock holders I assume.

    This has been my experience as well, the only thing they have been sold out of is the deluxe, the basic model they have plenty lol but as we all know, no one in there right mind would get the basic over the deluxe

    Agreed. I saw 5 of the basic set at Toys R Us today. I wonder if people/scalpers are returning them?
