FEATURED VOXPOP oblivion437 Update: I was unfortunately not aware of Shamus Young's severe criticism of Fallout 3 available here to link in the original piece and I regret that.  It dovetails rather nicely with what I've written and it's much better executed than my piece.  I strongly recommend anyone...

Xbox 360's Lead Shrinks As PlayStation 3 Sales Reach 80 Million

Posted on Wednesday, November 6 @ 06:46:01 Eastern by Alex_Osborn

Sony has just revealed that as of November 2nd, PlayStation 3 sales have reached 80 million. We're coming up on the console's seventh birthday, making this astounding number no small feat.

In addition, the company announced that a staggering total of 4332 games (not including downloadable titles) have been released for the system. That's once heck of an extensive library as far as I'm concerned. Sony also said that 300 games will be released for the PS3 this holiday season, spanning November 1st to December 31st.

Interestingly enough, Microsoft's Xbox 360 reached the 80 million mark just last month, despite having an entire year head start on Sony's console. Of course, neither can hold a candle to the Wii, which has hit the coveted 100 million sales figure since its launch in November of 2006.
