GAMING NEWSXbox 720 Codenamed Loop; First Info on Hardware, Price, MorePosted on Tuesday, November 8 @ 07:41:34 Eastern by Anthony Severino
![]() We know for sure an Xbox 360 successor is coming, but that's about it. The codename, the features, the specs - everything about the hardware itself is a big unknown at this point. But a new rumor from MS Nerd, who usually has the inside scoop on all things Microsoft, has leaked some new details that could shed some light as to what the next Xbox is all about. It's not called the Xbox "Next" as previously reported. It's currently codenamed Xbox "Loop" and runs on a modified Windows 9 core. The hardware will be a "Zune HD-like" platform with a main processer, as well as "mulitple assistive cores" for things like graphics, AI, physics, sound, networking, and more. It'll be much smaller that the current Xbox 360, and they're aiming for it to be cheaper, too, to further encourage Kinect adoption These details lead me to believe that the next Xbox is currently in the very early stages of planning, and things like RAM, processor speeds, etc. haven't yet been decided. It's looking more and more like a 2013 release. More from the Game Revolution Network Comments

Additionally, huge costs are being sunk into making things prettier and not necessarily better. Why dump a whole bunch of money into something that can only be utilized by a small section of your market? 3D is a big enough money pit. 1080p is more than good enough for the next generation. Lets push that to the limit and then when the market is ready to move to more badass T.V.'s, then look passed 1080p.
Bleeding edge visuals (in terms of raw resolution) should be left to the PC. Consistent and accessible prettiness is for the consoles.

Planning to push the next development cycle passed 1080p seems like waste of resources at this moment. Getting all the publishers up to 1080p while the market catches up seems like the most prudent business move rather than pushing the system up to a yet-to-be-determined standard of resolution for gaming.
Plus, if the system is powerful enough, chances are a firmware update could handle a new standard at a later date - but we don't have one for Television yet.
