Xbox Gamers Still Preparing for Modern Warfare 3

Posted on Thursday, November 3 @ 13:48:43 Eastern by

Major Nelson has revealed the top 20 Xbox LIVE titles for the week of October 24th, and it's mainly not surprising. Just comparing it to the rankings in late June, the top 2 are still Call of Duty: Black Ops and Modern Warfare 2.

I want to say it's because gamers are preparing for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 in five days, and I'm sure that's having an effect, but without any solid numbers, it's inconclusive. A part of that is because Battlefield 3 and Gears of War 3 are ranked 3rd and 4th, and have likely taken away at least some of their FPS competition.

Xbox 360 Top LIVE Titles

1     Call of Duty: Black Ops
2     Modern Warfare 2
3     Battlefield 3
4     Gears of War 3
5     FIFA 12
6     Halo: Reach
7     Batman: Arkham City
8     Madden NFL 12
9     Forza Motorsport 4
10   GTA IV

Dungeon Defenders and DAYTONA USA sits atop the Arcade titles, which isn't too hard since there hasn't been much activity on Xbox LIVE Arcade. Meanwhile, indie game followers on Xbox LIVE Arcade are busy with clones and variations of Minecraft.

Ouch! Battlefield 3 has 99 problems and very old Call of Duty games make up at least two of them.

    I wonder what it's like on the PS3? I read that 360 BF3 sales doubled the PS3 version's.

If you think about it Xbox 360 caters to the FPS crowd more and the PS3 is more for RPG's, action adventures. That might be why it doubled. I believe PC sales even topped PS3, but I could be wrong.

I would hope PC sales topped PS3 sales for BF3, considering that's the primary platform for the game. I would be shocked if PC sales weren't higher than 360 sales.

I don't remember the exact figures, but I did read that PC sales for BF3 are actually the lowest of the three. I think a lot of that may have to do with Origin and bad press concerning the state of the PC multiplayer servers at launch.

Also, that was the dumbest song choice ever for the BF3 commercial. Black Ops totally had it with "Gimme Shelter". EA needs to step it up to compete there.

I doubt MW3 would be able to top this chart when it comes out. Doesn't it usually take months for a new COD game to surpass an older one? And come on, everyone knows the multiplayer will be pretty much the same as in Black Ops, which was pretty much same as in MW2, and so on, so I'd find it hard to believe that at 60 bucks for a multiplayer update, the game would be able to, in a month, surpass a couple years of older COD games on the market.
