FEATURED VOXPOP oblivion437 Update: I was unfortunately not aware of Shamus Young's severe criticism of Fallout 3 available here to link in the original piece and I regret that.  It dovetails rather nicely with what I've written and it's much better executed than my piece.  I strongly recommend anyone...

Xbox One Not Getting 12GB RAM Upgrade

Posted on Friday, August 9 @ 05:51:54 Eastern by Alex_Osborn

Xbox One, Microsoft's next-gen gaming console, will not be getting an upgrade from 8GB to 12GB of RAM. There's been a bit of confusion on this point ever since the company's product planning manager Albert Penello discussed the Xbox One specs on NeoGAF.

Here's what he said:

I would like to pose this question to the audience. There are several months until the consoles launch, and [as] any student of the industry will remember, specs change.

Given the rumored specs for both systems, can anyone conceive of a circumstance or decision one platform holder could make, where despite the theoretical performance benchmarks of the components, the box that appears “weaker” could actually be more powerful?

I believe the debate on this could give some light to why we don’t want to engage in a specification debate until both boxes are final and shipping.

The internet, naturally, began crafting rumors regarding a RAM upgrade, to which Penello took to Twitter to debunk.

Hey, at least the GPU got a boost.
