Yoshida On Multiplatform Games: “We Need To Make Sure Users Consider The PS4 Version To Be The Best"

Posted on Monday, May 6 @ 07:00:00 Eastern by Alex_Osborn

While the Xbox 360 quickly became the de facto platform for most third-party titles this generation, Sony hopes to reclaim that throne with the PlayStation 4.

Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida told 4Gamer (via Edge):

We need to make sure users consider the PS4 version to be the best and the one they want to play. That might mean that the graphics are better, the controller is more comfortable, or the point I mentioned earlier about the console being more user-friendly, like you don’t have to turn the power on and off or you can switch between your game and Netflix at will. Those things will become key.

The Sony exec also discussed the functionality of the Share button, explaining how developers have the ability to limit its capabilities much like the screenshot feature on the PlayStation Vita.

“There will be parts of a game that the maker does not want people to be able to see,” Yoshida said, adding, “For example, on Vita, developers can in certain scenes disable the feature that lets users take a screenshot, and (the Share function) will have a similar mechanism. The creator may not want to make video of the final boss sharable, for instance.”

What do you think of Sony's stance on multiplatform releases and its Share functionality? Do they have a shot at being the number one console in the upcoming generation? Sound off with your thoughts in the comments below.
