Ziff Davis Acquires IGN

Posted on Monday, February 4 @ 12:02:54 Eastern by Alex_Osborn

J2 Global's subsidiary Ziff Davis has acquired IGN and its stable of networks including UGO, 1UP, and AskMen. The price has not been revealed, but reports indicate that it was below the $100 million mark that News Corp was asking.

Gamers may recall that several years ago, 1UP and Electronic Gaming Monthly was owned by Ziff Davis, before being sold to Hearst. Then, just a couple of years ago, the Hearst properties were purchased by News Corp, the now former owner of IGN.

Now that Ziff Davis has purchased IGN from News Corp, 1UP is back at Ziff Davis. Kind of ironic, no?

Is IGN a thing that people take seriously? Someone actually spent money on this?

Alex and Dan: seriously speaking, is this a good thing for game journalism? Do you think this might make them better or were they better off with News Corp? Does this affect GR in any way?

I know it's "cool" to hate IGN, but the reality of things is that it is a pretty good site, there's always something new to read and they review almost every game that comes out and I find many of their reviews to be pretty accurate.
