Grid 2 surprised me. I was going through the motions, getting used to the cars and their handling, when suddenly something happened. I started having fun.

Undead Lab's zombie-infested action title has finally hit XBLA. Is it worth a few of your precious Microsoft Points, or should you whack it over the head with a two-by-four and continue on your merry way?

E3: PC or rather about the lack of it

E3 2013 has been very silent for me. There's tons of media, but most of it buzzes past my ears without them catching the important keyword that my ears are fine tuned to receive: "PC" or "Personal Computer". Microsoft, Sony, EA and Ubisoft have all shown their cards...

Ziff Davis Closes 1Up, Gamespy, and UGO

Posted on Thursday, February 21 @ 19:03:19 Eastern by

In a memo to employees, obtained by Kotaku today, Ziff Davis CEO Vivek Shah lays out the reasoning behind the shutter of three major gaming publications: 1Up, Gamespy, and UGO. Of course this comes on the heals of ZD's purchase of IGN and subsidiaries from Rupert Murdoch's News Corp.

Today we took some difficult but important actions that will ensure the continued growth and health of IGN and AskMen…. The changes we made today are designed to allow us to Simplify and Focus…. As a result of our decision to focus on our core brands, we are:

• Winding down 1UP.com, UGO.com, and GameSpy.com;
• No longer ad reaping 3rd party sites such as GameStop.com and FamilyGuy.com;
• Actively engaged with parties interested in acquiring IPL (IGN Pro League). IGN's role going forward will be to broadcast and cover a variety of eSports events;
• Dividing our ad sales team into two: one focused on IGN and the other focused on AskMen.

It seems apparent that 1UP, Gamespy, and UGO all heavily overlapped each other and IGN, so this was easily foreseen as a possible end. A lot of good folks are now looking for work as a result of this restructuring and we hope they find new opportunities quickly.

    I never like any of those companies but i can say this is a sad day. Gamespy did everythign they could to promote online gaming in the late 90's, 1up gave rise to rising reviewers now famous to day and UGO had a decent community.

    R.I.P.

    I feel bad for everybody who lost a job. I think the biggest loss gaming media has seen is still the demise of the original EGM.

    Yeah that one is up there. That was round 1 for 1up.com too so i'm sure this probably feels like old-hat to them.

    This is sad. I read Gamespy a lot as a kid. Not anymore, but still. Hoping those people move forward successfully.

    I also remember reading Gamespy at the library during my 30 minutes of internet access.

    I remember when Gamespy provided connection tools for games, which was amazing. Multiplayer PC gaming in the 90's was very difficult with direct IP connections and port forwarding, and Gamespy could handle all of it and provide a chat/game community. Thank you gamespy, for being a trailblazer to bring games where they are today.

    It's a sad eventuality for nearly all old-school gaming news/reviews sites...a sign of the times that I don't much care for. Seeing GamePro go under was a painful process, as it used to be one of my largest resources for games back in the day. Slowly but surely, all we'll have from the early days of the internet will be memories.

    I was very sad at the demise of Gamefan. Now there was a mag that had some personality, kinda like if there was a print version of GR.

    I wonder if Johnny Liu is still at 1up.com....He was one of the best reviewers GR ever had.
