Best of 2002

Nintendo Gamecube
Fewer games? Sure, but we'd exchange quantity for quality any day of the week, and if there's one thing Nintendo routinely gets right, it's quality. Behold the top games of 2002!

Revolutionary Gamecube Game of 2002

Metroid Prime
Nintendo

The deadly Samus Aran return to the forefront in the spectacular new Metroid Prime. Like many gamers out there, we had our doubts about Metroid going first-person. Then we played it, and kept playing it, and played it some more, and it became quite clear that we were wrong and Nintendo was right. Fantastic atmosphere and terrific gameplay makes Prime another Metroid classic.

Best Gamecube Game - Action
Metroid Prime
Nintendo

Oh yeah, it wins here, too. The smart control scheme and wealth of weaponry makes this as fun as it is beautiful. Score another one for Samus.

Best Gamecube Game - Action / Adventure
Resident Evil
Capcom

Yep, the first one. This remake of the original Resident Evil totally blew away the competition with its incredible graphics and slick gameplay. Plus, it has lots of zombies in it, which pretty much secures victory.

Best Gamecube Game - Multiplayer
Super Monkey Ball 2
Sega

What do you get when you cross a bunch of monkeys trapped in little balls with three of your best friends? We don't wanna know, but it might look something like Super Monkey Ball 2, the best multiplayer game for the Gamecube. Simians rule.

Editor's Choice Award - Animal Crossing (Nintendo)

We didn't have a category for it, but we had to give it something. Nintendo's version of The Sims is weird, addictive and definitely fun, just the combination we love here at GR.

Editor's Choice Award - Wavebird Wireless (Nintendo)

A first-party cordless controller? Apparently, Nintendo read our minds. They also took great care in ensuring that this excellent peripheral works like a charm...which it does.
