As the console wars swirl with
speculation and hype, it's quite refreshing to actually get some hands-on
time with next-generation software. At Gamestock 2001, eight first-party
Xbox titles were demoed for the press. They were all playable builds,
though most were far from even beta status.
The eight games cover a variety
of game genres. Here are three in particular that caught our eye.

Oddworld: Munch's
Oddysee
The Oddworld series for the PSX was a critical smash. The third
installment abandoned the PS2 in favor of the Xbox, and if what
we saw at Gamestock is any indication, it was a smart move. Currently
the most graphically impressive Xbox game in town, Munch's Oddysee
was GR's favorite Xbox game at the event.

Halo
The
criticaly acclaimed action doozie from Bungie has been on our hit
list for a solid year now, though little is known about how the
final game will play out. The Xbox version is admittedly different
from the PC version due to the hardware limitations, but it's just
as compelling.

Fuzion Frenzy
With
so much emphasis on graphical oomph and impressive technical specs,
it's easy to forget that the Xbox is still going to be defined by
the quality of the software. Fuzion Frenzy came out of left
field and really impressed us with it's good old fashioned party
game appeal. Could be a sleeper hit.
