I had planned to write something about the Borderlands series, but that will have to wait. I have something I need to get off my chest first. It's very personal, and I hope the two or three of you who follow my sparse blog will spare me this moment. I joked in my review for the bizarre...

Artifact Red-X Screenshots

Humans & Aliens have been locked in a millennia-long war which began when a group of explorers discovered an artifact in the center of the milky way galaxy. This artifact was found to be as old as the universe itself.  When touched by an ungloved hand the artifact cracked,  revealing a power source with such tremendous energy no one could resist removing it for study. As the scientist attempted to remove the element, it released an energy wave which rippled throughout the galaxy. The energy wave had a strange effect on all organic life causing the cells in the vertebrae to mutate in what scientists are calling "Freeform Evolution". These mutations transform the individual's physiology based on emotion, self thought and environmental interaction. The 'energy' somehow absorbs the bombardment of stimuli, combined with the individual's own self projection,  undergoes molecular and cellular metamorphosis.

In addition to aesthetic changes, whoever the individual interacts with can also influence these physical changes. It was found that by associating with unsavory individuals, the group of individuals all appear to produce particular pheromones in a way to identify with one another.  This indicated that "Freeform Evolution" is somehow interconnected with every molecule. These changes have changed the social dynamics of all the known species in this region of space.

Despite the hazardous nature of Element Red-X on organic matter, the use of this element as a power source has drastically advanced human civilization. The energy produced by a micron of Red-X powers faster than light space travel, which has allowed humanity to expand rapidly into the universe.  As humanity's insatiable demand of element Red-X grows, so to do the squabbles over the control of the rare element.  After just 50 years from the first Red-X fueled reactor, human civilization is so dependent on the element that it is nearly used up. Some say it is like the fossil fuel and ion fuel booms in the twentieth and twenty third centuries.

With planetary mines at near total exhaustion, the race is on to find more Red-X. The council of planetary colonies decreed that there is a concentrated source detected in deep space. Those who venture out into the deep recesses of space and harvest Red-X  for the colonies will become rich beyond their wildest dreams. Problem is that the planets rich in the element are also populated. It is up to the individual to determine the best method to extract the Red-X.
