Developer: Gas Powered Games (GPG) Corp.
Availability: Scheduled for release in 2001
Product Overview:
"Dungeon Siege" is an action fantasy role-playing game that combines
the immersive elements of a role-playing game with the intensity of
a real-time strategy game. "Dungeon Siege" plunges players into a continuous
3-D fantasy world on a quest to stop a mysterious evil that has been
unleashed. Beginning with a single character, players can travel through
the world and gather a party of up to 10 characters or choose to face
the challenge alone. The fusion of action role-playing and real-time
strategy controls in "Dungeon Siege" impels players into one over-the-top
battle after another as the storyline unfolds.
Key Features:
- Immersive, continuous, fully 3-D environment.
The setting of "Dungeon Siege" is one gigantic, continuous world in
which players can seamlessly journey from the highest mountain to
the deepest dungeon without ever having to stop to watch a loading
screen. Discovering a myriad of locations to explore - from strange
secret underground lairs to towering alpine mountains and deep desert
canyons - players will become immersed in the fantasy of the world
that surrounds them.
- Intense gameplay - "Dungeon Siege" style.
"Dungeon Siege" pushes the envelope of role-playing games with fully
animated 3-D characters, over-the-top battles, intense special effects
and awe-inspiring vertical landscapes. With true 3-D environments,
a particle system for effects and spells and dungeons that can extend
in three dimensions, Chris Taylor and Gas Powered Games inject the
role-playing game genre with the same level of intensity found in
real-time strategy games. "Dungeon Siege" takes full advantage of
the real-time strategy gaming experience with a broad array of familiar
game controls such as drag select, way points and formations.
- A band of friends to help save the world.
In "Dungeon Siege," gamers can customize their party to include up
to 10 cohorts, picking up valuable characters along the way (and dropping
dead weight if they need to). Players who want a troupe heavy in magic
skills can bring along all the sorcerers they can find. Solo-minded
players can recruit a trusty group of henchmen or bring along a pack
mule to help haul their loot.
Action and adventure without the wait.
"Dungeon Siege" is engaging and easy to understand; action-packed
and easy to control; deep and involving and quick to learn. Players
don't have to worry about making too many decisions up front: their
characters will develop all the skills needed to win as the adventure
progresses. With a simple learning curve and no complex puzzles, players
can concentrate on the fun stuff: battling monsters, exploring dungeons
and advancing their character.
- A game - and a gaming platform.
The proprietary Siege Editor in "Dungeon Siege" gives gamers the freedom
to rework nearly every aspect of the game, making "Dungeon Siege"
not only a game, but also a role-playing platform for those who want
to create their own characters, spells, dungeons - even entire worlds.
Gamers can post these user-created files to the Web, making them available
for anyone to download and explore or play as a multiplayer game.
- Full multiplayer support.
"Dungeon Siege" will support up to 10 players via a local area network
(LAN) or the MSN™ Gaming Zone (http://www.zone.com/). Players can
take part in both "short game" multiplayer experiences such as capture
the castle and the more traditional, widely played campaign style
of play.
