FEATURED VOXPOP oblivion437 Update: I was unfortunately not aware of Shamus Young's severe criticism of Fallout 3 available here to link in the original piece and I regret that.  It dovetails rather nicely with what I've written and it's much better executed than my piece.  I strongly recommend anyone...

Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords Screenshots

Developer: Stardock
Release date: February 2006

Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords is a turn-based PC strategy game that puts the player in the role of leader of a space-faring civilization. The player will direct his civilization across the galaxy to colonize planets, establish trade routes, fight wars and ultimately gain control of the galaxy.

Players must balance their diplomatic power, industrial strength, military might, technological resources and cultural endeavors to reach their goal of ultimate victory. Facing the player are up to nine computer-controlled civilizations, each with its own unique artificial intelligence engine.

Alien civilizations can make treaties, trade agreements and alliances. Victory often means working with other civilizations cooperatively in order to fight off stronger, more aggressive races.

Galactic Civilizations II offers multiple paths to victory including the standard military conquest option, creating a universal galactic alliance, technology victory and cultural domination.

The game includes both a sandbox mode where players can play individual games on randomly generated or existing maps, as well as a multi-mission campaign that takes them through the story of Galactic Civilizations II.

Players can also compete online via the Galactic Metaverse in which individual games are submitted to GalCiv.com and made part of the player's epic history.
