Part adventure game and part storybook, this application occupies an exciting new hybrid category somewhere in-between; a territory Norwegian game developer SnowCastle calls “Interactive Stories”. This is storytelling the adventure game way. Although the narrative remains linear and chronological, you interact with the story elements in subtle, but effective ways that make you feel in control of it. In  Hogworld: Gnart’s Adventure all interactivity has a purpose and often propels the story onward, but unlike a game, the story takes precedence. No task or challenge must be completed to move the story forward if you do not chose to do so. On the other hand, the rich surroundings are an invitation to explore. You may pause the story to do so, or even better, follow the story to its end and return to find the hidden treasures you missed in your first reading.
