Format: Nintendo DS™
Launch Date: Sept. 11, 2006
ESRB: RP (Rating Pending)
Game Type: Sports
Accessories: Nintendo DS Rumble Pak™
Players: 1-4
Developer: Square Enix

It's a whole new ball game as Mario™ rocks the rim on the Nintendo DS!

  • Team up and power up: Players choose their teams of three characters from the Mario universe and hit the parquet. Power-ups like red shells and stars can turn the tide as players chase down coins – they affect the score, so players must collect as many as they can as they drive to the hoop.
  • Get that magic touch: There are plenty of basketball games out there, but none with the hands-on control of Mario Hoops 3-on-3. Players use the touch screen to get their game on as they execute tricky dribbles, special passes and powered-up super shots – all with strokes and taps of the stylus.
  • Whether playing against friends over local wireless, jamming through a tournament or just playing mini-games, there's a mode for everyone.
Game storyline: Mario and the gang head all over the Mushroom Kingdom in wild 3-on-3 basketball games.

Characters: Mario, Luigi, Peach, Wario™, Donkey Kong®, Waluigi, Birdo, Diddy Kong®, Dixie Kong™, Yoshi™, Bowser, Bowser Jr., Daisy, Koopa Paratroopa, Shy Guy and more. On top of the Mushroom Kingdom characters, there will also be unlockable Square characters like Moogle, Cactuar and White Mage.

How to progress through the game: Play through increasingly difficult tournaments to unlock new characters, courts and features. In versus games, simply link up with a friend, pick three characters and hit the court.

Special powers/weapons/moves/features: All characters have their own special moves that players activate by tapping out a special symbol – often the first initial of the character's names – twice. If done successfully, characters will perform a huge dunk or an alley oop. This game also features wireless mini-games (one an item battle and the other a race) that can be played via DS Download Play.
