The arrow keys rotate and thrust your ship. "F" fires your laser. Finishing a level gives you an additional ship. Stay moving. Accelerating from stop takes time to overcome inertia so thrust early to escape oncoming menace(s). Defense shield segments are worth twice as much left in place when the Star Lord is destroyed than if you destroyed it with your laser. Thusly, destroy fewer defense shield segments for more points upon level completion.
