A growing compilation of anecdotes in addition to UK sales data suggests that Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare isn't performing up to its series' standard. Although received well, this will likely mark another downtrending year for Call of Duty, resulting in uncertainty on its future.
It gets worse, though. As indicated by the Xbox Live Most Played games list, Infinite Warfare ranks at the #4 spot, as opposed to Call of Duty's usual #1 placing during launch month. As far as what's outperforming it, interestingly enough, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered sits at the #2 spot.
The Modern Warfare Remaster is currently only available to consumers who purchase a $79.99 MSRP deluxe edition of Infinite Warfare. Pre-release sales charts suggested that this version was much more popular than the standard edition, but few expected the remaster to outperform Infinity Ward's new game in terms of popularity.
Many gamers have expressed discontent with Activision's move to require the purchase of Infinite Warfare to gain access to Modern Warfare Remastered, which currently holds a better Metascore and user review average across multiple retailers. Nonetheless, thousands have taken the plunge making it one of the most popular multiplayer games in the world right now, perhaps at Infinite Warfare's expense.
