Destiny 2 Max Power Level Caps in Shadowkeep

The Destiny 2 Shadowkeep expansion has released, and that means new max level caps. Max light level caps have increased for Destiny 2, at least if you own the Forsaken expansion. This means you have a chance to increase your Guardian’s power further, and there’s a whole lot more grinding in your future. Below we’ve got the info you need for the Destiny 2 max light level and max level cap increases that have come with Forsaken.

Destiny 2 Shadowkeep Max Level Cap

The first Destiny 2 expansion, Curse of Osiris, raised the level cap from 20 to 25. With Warmind, we got another five-level increase to bring the max level to 30. Now with Forsaken you can jump 20 levels to 50. This is your XP-based level we’re talking about here, which Destiny players know is only a small measure of your Guardian’s power.

Unfortunately, we don’t get to earn any new abilities for our Guardians in these five new levels (though you will get new subclasses by other means). It seems like we won’t see a lot of significant return for reaching max level again, though light level may be affected by your current level, but there could be some surprises waiting for those who hit level 50.

For now, we don’t have any confirmation whether the Destiny 2 Shadowkeep player level cap will be lifted above 50. We’ll update this article once we know more.

Destiny 2 Shadowkeep Max Light Level Cap (Destiny 2 Max Power Level Cap)

Destiny 2 Max Level Cap Max Light Level Cap Warmind

The base game of Destiny 2 has a light limit of 305. Curse of Osiris increased that to 330 (335 with Legendary Mods). Warmind gives us a much more substantial jump in max light level with a cap of 380 (385 with mods). Forsaken gave us a huge jump and raised the max light level to 600.

With the release of Shadowkeep, we once again get a huge jump in power level cap. For starters, when the update goes live, everyone will be raised to a default 750 power level. The first soft cap you’ll hit will be 900 and then you’ll start having to grind for Prime Engrams until you reach level 950. Once at 950 you’ll need to grind for Pinnacle drops until you reach power level 960. However, with the introduction of artifacts, the actual power level cap might be unlimited. As you can level Artifacts, it seems like you can break the 960 barrier, even if no other gear higher than 960 will drop.

For those of you who are still used to the original Destiny‘s terminology, your max light level in Destiny 2 is the same as your max power level cap in the first game. It’s measured by the combined strength of your equipment, and with a massive point jump in the cap, you can get ready for quite a bit of gear grinding and upgrading.

It seems as though Bungie has learned from the controversy around increasing the required power levels on Raids, Heroic Strikes, and Nightfall missions with the release of Curse of Osiris. But now, with the new base line power level, who knows what the rrequirements for those events will be. Ideally, the content released in Shadowkeep will become the new endgame for Destiny 2, while those who opted just for the F2P New Light can still enjoy previous content with no handicaps.
