Xenoblade Chronicles 2 has many side quests that you can take part in, and one of the first longer ones you’ll receive involves the item Confusion Ivy. You’ll need to get Confusion Ivy as one of the steps in the Concerned Carpenter side quest that you can start when you arrive in Torigoth in Gormott Province.
We’ll show you how to start the Concerned Carpenter side quest, how to find Pawli, get Confusion Ivy, and find the Gotmotto Walnut in Xenoblade Chronicles 2.
How to Start the Concerned Carpenter Side Quest in Xenoblade Chronicles 2
As you’re coming into Torogoth from the plains of Gormott Province, you’ll see an NPC named Siorge near the Torogoth Market. Speak to him, and he’ll tell you his son Pawli is missing. Siorge sent Pawli on an errand, and he’s overdue, so he asks you to go looking for him.
Accept the quest and make sure to stock up on new weapons if you haven’t already. Depending on how far into the game you’re attempting this you may be in for a tough fight.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Concerned Carpenter Quest: How to Find Pawli
Once you’ve accepted Siorge’s quest, just follow the quest marker into the Gormott Plains. Once you’ve made it to your target, you’ll see that Pawli has been chased up a tree by a group of monsters.
If you’re attempting this quest right after the first time you reach Torigoth, you’ll probably either want to wait until later or go grind. More than likely the three Nabadan Gogol foes that are surrounding him are higher level than you are.
How to Find Confusion Ivy in Xenoblade Chronicles 2
Once you rescue Pawli, he’ll jump down from the tree. He has a twisted ankle though, so he needs you to accomplish the task he was sent out to do by his father. You’ll need to find Confusion Ivy, specifically seven pieces of it.
Finding Confusion Ivy in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 isn’t too terrible, but it has an aspect of randomness about it. Pawli gives you a clue that you can find the ivy near trees. So, the best thing to do is to head into the flat sections of the Gormott wilderness and start looking for Collection Points near trees.
It might take you a while, but if you keep checking Collection Points near both smaller trees and the roots of the giant ones, you’ll eventually get ahold of seven pieces of Confusion Ivy. These Collection Points can spawn up to three pieces of Confusion Ivy at a time, so if you’re lucky, it can take only three points to find all the ivy you need.
Once you find all of the ivy, you’ll need to head back to Pawli.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Gotmotti Walnut
After you meet back up with Pawli, he’ll tell you to go back to Torogoth and see his dad Siorge. Siorge still has more work he wants you to do. He needs a Gormotti Walnut, and you’re just the person for the job.
Unlike the Confusion Ivy, you’ll need to barter for the Gormotti Walnut. Follow the quest marker, and you’ll arrive in the Nopon Camp. Here there is a Nopon named Mokumoku who happens to have a walnut, but he wants 30,000 Gold for it.
You can either pay the 30,000 Gold if you just want to get the quest over with, or you can do a favor for Mokumoku.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Muscle Branch (Optional)
If you don’t want to pony up the cash for the Gotmotti Walnut, you can find something to trade Mokumoku for it. He needs a Muscle Branch, and if you find it for him, he’ll give you the walnut.
The best place to find a Muscle Branch is in Collection Points that are near wood. It’s a rare item, so when it springs out of a Collection Point, it’ll glow yellow. Since it’s random, your best bet is to find a spot near some wood you can continue to come back to easily.
One good spot to try for the Muscle Branch is the Nocclia Timber Site. You can go northeast of the Waytree, and you’ll add it as a Skip Travel point. Near an NPC named Otto, you’ll see a Collection Point. You can search it, Skip Travel to the Nocclia Timber Site and search it again.
You can do this over and over until you get the Muscle Branch. Once you’ve got it, take it to Mokumoku, and he’ll trade you the Gormotti Walnut for it.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Complete the Concerned Carpenter Side Quest
Once you’ve got your hands on the Gormotti Walnut, either by buying it or trading the Muscle Branch for it, you can turn in this quest. Just head back to Siorge near Torogoth Arch, and that’s it!
For completing this quest, you’ll get some Gold, XP, and a few Aux Cores.
