Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth Hacker’s Memory Starter Guide: Which Starter Digimon is the Best?

Upon starting out in Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth Hacker’s Memory, you will be faced with picking between three starter monsters: Betamon, Gotsumon, and Tentomon. Each of these three were featured in Cyber Sleuth, so you might be wondering why they would be the starters for its sequel, especially when you look at how Gotsumon and Betamon are pretty insignificant companions.

Interestingly enough, Hacker’s Memory revamps these three with a new evolution line for each of them that is part of the 80 new Digimon added to the game on top of what was already in Cyber Sleuth. As such, it changes up all of them enough to make any of the three worth choosing. But which is the best? Let’s dig in.

To figure out which of these is the best, we must first take a look at them individually. Let’s go in alphabetical order, starting with Betamon:

Betamon is a Virus Digimon with water elemental-based attacks and powers. For the most part, it is a pretty insignificant creature, only noteworthy for evolving into Seadramon.

Gotsumon is a Data Digimon that uses the earth element. Not really remarkable in the shows or other games, its new evolution line brings it in its own.

Tentomon is a Vaccine Digimon that uses plant elemental attacks. Noteworthy for its nostalgia factor, as Izzy had him as his partner in the original anime and the recent Digimon Tri movies.

As for which of these three is the best, it really depends on a few different factors. For purely nostalgia, we recommend going with Tentomon as it is the most famous of the three. Gotsumon has a new Golemon evolution line that is powerful, but not always versatile or attractive.

Our personal pick is Betamon. Its new evolution line starting with Airdramon and continuing with Wingdramon is both powerful and the best looking of the three. Have fun!
