If you’re looking to find your house in Flight Simulator 2020, then you’ll be pleased to learn that you can do so. Developer Asobo Studio has used a combination of Bing Maps and Azure AI to generate photorealistic 3D locations from across the world, and as it has generated an overwhelmingly detailed map of the Earth, then yes, it is entirely possible to fly to your house in the game.
The following instructions will give you a direct and exact route to your house, so you won’t have to fly in circles around your hometown or city in the hopes of spotting your location. Here’s how to find your house in Flight Simulator 2020.
Can I find my house in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020?
You can find your house in Flight Simulator 2020, though it requires some sleuthing outside of the game. In order to do so, you must find the coordinates of your house, and then save them as a flight plan that you can travel to in-game. You can also use this method to travel to any location in the game, so keep it in mind.
In order to fly over your house in Flight Simulator 2020, you must first search for it in Google Maps. This will allow you to find out the coordinates you need to enter in order to fly to your home.
Finding your home’s coordinates
To fly to your home, you’ll first need to find its coordinates via Google Maps. To do so, follow these steps:
- Go to Google Maps
- Search for your zip code/postcode
- Enter satellite view
- Click on your house and then click on the coordinates given

The next step is actually flying to your house. After getting the coordinates, you’ll next need to rearrange them in order to add them to a flight plan. This will allow you to set a marker for your house on the world map, so that you can easily navigate to your home.
YouTuber Squirrel was seemingly the first to figure out a surefire way to visit any destination in the game, including your house, and you can watch his video below:
How to find coordinates of your house
In summary, you’ll need to take the coordinates you found on Google Maps and copy and paste them into Notepad. These coordinates will look something like this (we’ve used the Los Angeles Convention Center as an example):
- 34°02’24.1″N 118°16’10.3″W
You’ll then need to rearrange these coordinates into separate strings, like below:
- N34° 02.24′, W118° 16.10′
- N34° 02′ 24.1″, W118° 16′ 10.3″
Here’s how to rearrange the coordinates for the first string of text:
- Move the first compass point (i.e. N, S, E, W) to the front of the coordinates
- Enter a space after the first degrees symbol
- Delete the apostrophe (‘) between the first two numbers after the first coordinate and replace with a period (.), i.e. 02’24.1 becomes 02.24.1
- Delete the text after this number, including its fractional part (02.24.1″N becomes 02.24)
- Replace that text with an apostrophe (02.24 becomes 02.24′) and follow the apostrophe with a comma
- Repeat this process for the next coordinate, i.e. 118°16’10.3″W becomes W118° 16.10′
For the coordinates in the next string of text, follow these steps:
- Move the first compass point to the front of the coordinates
- Enter a space after the first degrees symbol
- Enter a space after the first apostrophe
- Enter a comma after the quotation mark
- Repeat this process for the next coordinate, though don’t insert another comma
How to create a flight plan to your house
Now that you’ve got the coordinates for your house, find the nearest airport to your home. You’ll need to find the ICAO code for that airport, which is what Flight Simulator 2020 uses for all of its airports.
Once you’ve done that, go to Flight Simulator 2020‘s world map and select your nearby airport as both the departure and arrival destination. Now, open filters and enable ‘NAVAIDS’ and ‘FIX & RNAV POSITION REPORT.’ You’ll see many more icons appear on the map when you’re zoomed in on the airport, and you want to click on one of the triangle- or diamond-shaped icons. These icons will allow you to create a custom flight path that you’ll be able to edit.
Click one of these icons and select ‘Add.’ Make a note of the icon’s name (it will be listed at the top of the screen as part of your flight path). Click save and name it something that you’ll remember, i.e. ‘House Flight.’
Now open a new Notepad and drag the new .FLT file (so House Flight.FLT) into the Notepad. Scroll down to the portion of the file beginning with [ATC_Aircraft.0] and find Waypoint .2. Change the name of this waypoint to HOUSE, then replace this waypoint’s coordinates the first string of coordinates from the instructions above. Copy the whole Waypoint .2 line.
Next, scroll down to [ATC_ActiveFlightPlan.0]. Replace its waypoint .2 text with your copied Waypoint .2 coordinates to your house. Save this file.
Now go to the .PLN file and drag it into Notepad. Find the icon’s name in the file and replace it with ‘HOUSE.’ Delete the code beneath this that beginning and concluding with <ICAO> and </ICAO>. Now replace the coordinates in this section with your second string of coordinates to your house, and save the file.
How to find my house in Flight Simulator 2020
Now you can find and fly to your house in Flight Simulator 2020. Load the flight path in the game’s world menu, then select a slower plane that will allow you to fly at a lower altitude.
After you’ve loaded into the game, you can open up the nav log (n) to see the direction in which you’ll need to be headed. Fly in ‘Chase’ camera mode (accessible via camera settings) and open up the VFR map (v) to see the pink line you’ll need to follow in order to reach your house. Your house should also be labeled as ‘HOUSE’ on the map.
Take off and fly to the HOUSE marker. Fly low and, once you reach the marker, hit the Pause key to stop the game in motion. Now click Insert to enter drone camera view, and you’ll be able to zoom in on your house using the drone.
