Grounded’s Shroom and Doom update adds pets and a new vile spider

Minature survival game Grounded is getting a whole lot bigger with the upcoming Shroom and Doom update. Tons of new features are on the way, the most notable of which are adorable pets and a distinctly less lovable spider. Arachnophobia Mode has never looked more appealing!

How to get pets in Grounded’s Shroom and Doom update

Players can get pets in Grounded when the new Shroom and Doom update launches on June 30, 2021. The all-new Grounded patch is free to download on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Windows 10 and Steam.

The trailer (above) showcases the Grounded aphid companion, which, thankfully, it appears that users can pet. Presumably, there will be more pets available to players when the Grounded Shroom and Doom update launches later this month.

In addition to the new Grounded pets system, achievements and an enormous spider are on the way. The “Brood Mother” is pretty gnarly, though users can tone her down using the in-game Arachnophobia Mode. With this setting maxed out, the eight-legged freak goes from a hairy abomination to a couple of unthreatening blobs.

There’s also the hotly anticipated ability to sit down — players really wanted that, apparently — and mushrooms. It looks like some mushrooms will be safe to harvest and others toxic, thus proving hazardous to players’ health. It’s unclear how exactly that could impact gameplay at this stage, but it will be soon, with the Grounded Shroom and Doom release date being later this month.

Much like Grounded, Xbox Game Studios’ Seas of Thieves is getting a huge free update in June. Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean is coming in the SoT: A Pirates Life expansion. Will disgraced actor Johnny Depp reprise the role, though? Here’s the need-to-know info.

In more news from the Xbox E3 2021 press conference, Halo Infinite multiplayer is going free to play and there are all-new campaign details.
