Ubisoft: WWII, Egypt, And Japan Would Be The Worst Settings For Assassin’s Creed

Oh, Ubisoft, stop trolling me.

Alex Hutchinson, creative director for Assassin's Creed 3, is seemingly appalled at several fan-requested settings for the franchise in a response to Official Xbox Magazine:

People on the internet suggest the most boring settings. The three most wanted are WWII, feudal Japan and Egypt. They're kind of the three worst settings for an AC game.

[Assassin's Creed 3 writer Corey May] really wants to do India. I would too. I'd really love to do the Raj.

Where to begin? Avoiding World War II is certainly for the best, as it's been overwhelmingly overdone, and what country would you choose? Hopping from one Allied country to the next would seem frenetic and a waste of effort in terms of art assets. And don't we already have The Saboteur?

Egypt has arguably the most exotic sensibilities, though the color palette and sparse environments might not be as spectacular as the dungeons themselves. But there's more to Egypt than just sand and pyramids. To be fair, I think India and its architecture would be a better choice, though only slightly.

As for feudal Japan… why the hell not?! The only downside I see is that ninjas make too much sense. I know that Japanese developers have already covered Japanese feudal history many, many times, but I can't remember a good one in recent years. And the only open-world Japanese game I can cite is Yakuza, and the map for Kamarucho isn't that large. If Assassin's Creed ever comes to feudal Japan, I'll transfer some Nujabes tracks to my Xbox 360 so that I can imagine I'm playing Samurai Champloo.
