343i Talks Halo 5 And What’s Next For The Reclaimer Trilogy

While new IPs are wonderful for introducing new and creative ideas to gaming, a lot of us gamers still love our sequels. Delving deeper into a particular universe is incredibly engrossing and one of the many reasons people love the Halo series so much.

When Halo 4 was announced during Microsoft's press conference at E3 last year, the news was coupled with the fact that it marks the start of a brand new trilogy for the chief. And while that may have had many gamers groaning, I welled up with joy like a child on Christmas morning. That said, we all know Halo 5 will be coming eventually and even though the fourth installment doesn't launch until November, 343 Industries is already shedding a bit of light on the next entry.

In an interview with The Independent, lead game designer Scott Warner spoke to the future of the series and how they plan to approach subsequent installments in the Halo franchise. “There’s always kind of a careful balancing act between what you decide to improve upon, what you have that you think is really good, what’s the great mixture of that to put you in the best position to be successful as a team," he explained. "But certainly as things go on in development we have an advantage in the sense that we can cross those streams a bit.”

I'm sure to no one's surprise, the real challenge for 343i will lie in how well they manage to preserve that core Halo formula that fans love, while offering up fresh and exciting changes to keep things from growing stale. From what we've seen of Halo 4 thus far, they appear to be on the right track.
