Destiny Is Quite Possibly the Most Expensive Game of All Time

Destiny, Bungie's highly anticipated shared-world shooter, has been an incredibly expensive endeavor for Activision. In fact, according to company CEO Bobby Kotick, the publisher plans to spend a whopping $500 million in development and promotion.

Kotick shared the staggering number during last week's Milken conference (via of Reuters), which makes it one of, if not the most, expensive game endeavor ever. Fortunately, Activision has deep pockets and clearly believes in Bungie's ability to deliver. After all, this is the company that revolutionized the FPS genre with Halo.

Do you think Destiny will prove to be the monumental success Activision expects it to be? It's certainly an ambitious game that attempts to push the first-person shooter genre in new directions. In case you missed it, you can check out a fresh look at the game's co-op combat in this gameplay video.
