Tell GR: What January Game Release Are You Most Looking Forward To?

January 2019 is a big month for new game releases. The Resident Evil 2 remake, Kingdom Hearts 3, and Ace Combat 7 each launch this month, giving us plenty of new titles to kick off the year. We asked the GR editorial team what their most anticipated January games are, and the results were almost a perfect split.

What game are you most excited for this month? Let us know in the comments section below, and as always we’ll feature our favorite response in tomorrow’s Tell GR.

Paul Tamburro, executive editor: “The Resident Evil 2 remake. Jason’s level of anticipation has rubbed off on the whole GR team, and now I just want it to launch so we all get to bask in the warm glow of his happy face.”

Jason Faulkner, senior editor: “I’m super pumped for Resident Evil 2 remake, 22 DAYS TO GO BAEBEE! Other than that, I’m really looking forward to Ace Combat 7. For a flight sim series, Ace Combat has a lot of lore and world-building and I can’t wait to see what happens next in Strangereal.”

Mack Ashworth, lead editor: “While I never played the original, I’m very much looking forward to the Resident Evil 2 remake. Though I’m late to the franchise, I’ll happily take any excuse to headshot the undead. This, and the fact that Jason has been hyping the game up like crazy, means I’m very eager to play!”

Bradley Russell, news editor: “Unlike those clinging to the past with the Resident Evil 2 remake (hi, Jason!), I’m looking firmly towards the future. It’s a sequel nearly a decade in the making. It’s Kingdom Hearts 3. I’ve done my level best to avoid the blast of trailers that have been released so I’m going in fairly fresh. Here’s hoping it’ll kickstart a great gaming year after what was, for me, a pretty disappointing 2018. It may even wrap up 2019’s GOTY award before anyone else even gets a chance. Please be good. Please be good. Please be good.”

Michael Leri, features editor: “I want to play the Resident Evil 2 remake quite a bit but I want to see the reactions to Kingdom Hearts 3. The 16 or so years of convoluted bullshit all come to a head, which means people are going to pretend that somehow all that waiting was worth it or riot in the streets with Sora body pillows in hand and demand a Final Mix 3.11749 version to fix it. Either way, it’ll be interesting to watch.”

NecroWolf: “I can never complete the game called “My Steam Backlog”, I make progress, then winter and summer sales hit, then it spirals out of control.”
