Sennheiser GSP 370 Review

Sennheiser GSP 370 Review | Endurance champ

After finally managing to get this headset to run out of juice after over 90 hours of use, I’m now ready to write up this Sennheiser GSP 370 review. If it’s not already obvious, this wireless headset’s main party trick is its ability to last a long, long, long time between charges. However, that’s not the only thing that this new Sennheiser gaming headset for 2019 can do. Read on for my full thoughts after using it to watch movies, listen to music, and play games on both PC and PS4.

Sennheiser GSP 370 Review | The problem with wireless is…

Sennheiser GSP 370 Review

Wireless audio solutions have been a bit hit or miss for me, with some wire-free headphones and earphones delivering on sound, but also introducing latency that makes watching movies or playing games a subpar experience. Others have nailed the lag issue, but don’t sound too great or suffer from woeful audio quality. Up until now, there has always been an unfortunate compromise that always had me going back to a wired connection. Thankfully, Sennheiser appears to have righted a lot of those wrongs with the GSP 370.

The perfect wireless headset is one that delivers a wired-like experience, only with the obvious convenience of not having to stay connected to your audio device. I don’t want to constantly be reminded that I’m making a compromise by wearing wireless, with a downgrade of sound quality, the introduction of lag, or a low battery indicator tainting the experience. I want to be able to forget all of that, and this is where the Sennheiser GSP 370 really won me over. Any problems I had with wireless products of the past were instantly forgotten, leaving only appreciation for the convenience.

Sennheiser GSP 370 Review | Easy does it

It became immediately clear from the unboxing experience that Sennheiser is keeping things simple with this product. In the box, you get the well-packaged headset, the dongle, the micro USB cable for charging, and a manual.

My setup experience was super simple, with the dongle immediately recognizing the headset. There was no pairing process or anything like that, which was great to see. I downloaded the Sennheiser Gaming Suite software, which then checked for the latest updates.

It’s easy to hate software like this, as each new tech accessory seems to come with its own app, but the Gaming Suite allows users to switch from 2.1 to 7.1 sound (personal preference, but I almost always stick with stereo), tweak the EQ, and also adjust the microphone settings. The app is pretty minimalist, but that also means it’s lightweight and easy to use.

Though the “Esports (Treble)” EQ preset may be preferable for some competitive games, I find that the “Flat” default hits the sweet spot for the bass, mids, and treble. The natural sound of the headphone is enough without the need to tweak EQ, in my opinion, but it’s there if you need it.

Audio quality is as you’d expect from a design based on the GSP 300, sounding fun but not overbearing at any frequency. The bass feels “just right” without being boomy, and the highs provide clarity without any harshness. To my ears, the GSP 370 headset sounds exactly how I like it, across all forms of entertainment.

I was especially impressed with the audio in games like Apex Legends and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, where directional audio is very important. While my preference is to use 2.1 over virtual 7.1 across all of the headsets and headphones I use, the direction of footsteps and gunfire was clearly transmitted.

Sennheiser GSP 370 Review | The downsides

Sennheiser GSP 370 Review

Sadly, it’s not all good news about the Sennheiser GSP 370. However, many of my criticisms here are more to do with uses beyond gaming. For example, there is no way to connect the headset with a 3.5 mm wire, which rules out its use with an audio interface or mixer, which streamers might use. There’s no Bluetooth support either, so USB is the only way to connect.

Then there’s the microphone arm, which has limited movement and isn’t removable. While yes, it’s great that you can lift it up to mute your voice, sometimes you don’t want your gaming headset to look like a gaming headset, and then the mic needs to completely disappear. That’s not possible here.

I could live with a permanently attached microphone if the quality was worth it, but it’s serviceable at best. It sounds like all of the other gaming headsets of 2019, so the people listening won’t hate you too much, but you won’t be using this as a serious mic. For that, you’ll need something in the broadcast area, like the Audio-Technica BPHS1, which comes in at the same $200 price range.

Sennheiser GSP 370 Review | For the gamers

Sennheiser GSP 370 Review

With all of the above said, my list of cons won’t affect pure gamers, which is the audience that this product is targeted at. When it comes to satisfying the gamers, the awesome sound quality, excellent range of settings, great comfort over long periods of time, easy-to-adjust volume wheel, and lift to mute function all combine to make for a truly fantastic gaming product.

Then there’s the epic battery life, which makes the GSP 370 even more brilliant! I started my review talking about just how long the battery in the GSP 370 lasts, and it’s how I’ll end it. Being able to charge this headset once or twice a month is huge. It allows you to avoid one of the main causes of anxiety when it comes to “going wireless,” leading to more convenience without the drastic downsides. If it does need a charge, then you can use the headset while it’s plugged in and keep on gaming!

Sennheiser GSP 370 Review | A big win

Sennheiser GSP 370 Review

Sennheiser has set out to make a great wireless gaming headset and I think it’s a big success. If you’ve got a budget of $200 to spend on a new headset, then the GSP 370 deserves to be on your shortlist with its 100 hours of battery life and game-friendly features. Cutting wires no longer means making a significant sacrifice, and that is huge!
