With the recent confirmation that the game will definitely be made, we need to look into the Wolfenstein 3 release date. The finale to the latest series of BJ Blazkowicz’s adventures might still be far away. But it is still worth wondering when it will happen considering the cliffhanger ending Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus ended on.
When is the Wolfenstein 3 Release Date?
In a recent interview, Pete Hines —the vice president of Bethesda Softworks in charge of public relations and marketing— confirmed that Wolfenstein 3 is going to happen. He noted that MachineGames did say “on stage that they’re taking a break from the larger story to do this thing” but that “Absolutely we’re making a [Wolfenstein 3].”
This begs the question of when is the Wolfenstein 3 release date. Well, we can speculate roughly when it will be coming out based on the previous games in the franchise. Wolfenstein: The New Order came out in 2014, with its expansion Wolfenstein: The Old Blood coming out a year later. The full sequel, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, came out three years after the original, with its expansion, Wolfenstein: Youngblood, scheduled to release in 2019.
From this, we can guess that the Wolfenstein 3 release date will be sometime in 2020 or 2021. This is because of the precedent in the series of having one expansion come out and then two years later, a full sequel coming out. This timeframe does prove to be an issue, however. Based on the age of the current generation of consoles, we might be seeing a hardware refresh within the next couple of years. This means that Wolfenstein 3 is either going to be one of the last games to come out this generation or will be pushed into the next one.
