Hitman 2 – How to Unlock Hitman 1 Missions

Hitman 2 is technically the second season of the episodic Hitman game that came out throughout 2016. But it is a separate game. But there is a way to unlock the Hitman 1 missions in Hitman 2. But it is really tricky because there are a ton of different ways to do it depending on how you purchased the first season or if you purchased the first season at all. In case you need help, here is how to unlock the Hitman 1 missions in Hitman 2.

How to Unlock Hitman 1 Missions in Hitman 2 for Hitman 1 Regular Edition Owners

This will likely be the way that most people will redeem their Hitman 1 missions in Hitman 2. If you own the digital version of all episodes of Hitman 1, then this is how you do it. This applies to people who bought each episode individually too as well as those who got it on disc on either the PS4 or Xbox One.

First, make sure you’ve got the latest Hitman 1 update and launch the game. Go to the store on the main menu, which you can see above. You’ll see the Legacy Pack here. Click on it and it will take you to the system’s store. It will show your Legacy Pack and you just need to hit the download button.

It’s around 38GB total and divided over each of the episodes. It includes Hokkaido, Colorado, Sapienza, Marrakesh, Bangkok, Paris, and Bonus Missions. These missions take advantage of Hitman 2‘s new features like the progression system, blending into crowds, and more.

IO Interactive also stated that it also comes with the Hitman Blood Money Requiem Pack, which includes Requiem Legacy Suit, Blood Money Shirt and Tie, White Rubber Duck Explosive, and Silenced ICA-19 Chrome Pistol from Hitman Blood Money. Escalation Contracts will also be added to both versions of the Legacy Pack. It does not include any featured contracts or the Sarajevo Six missions. Both will remain exclusive to previous Hitman.

Steam users will just have to launch Hitman 2 and connect to the servers to unlock their Legacy Pack. Once you connect, quit out to download it and you should be good to go.

Once the Legacy Pack has been redeemed and all the downloads have started, it’s safe to delete the previous Hitman.

However, if you have the disc version of the game and have purchased the digital Game of the Year Edition or Game of the Year Upgrade, IO Interactive recommends that you “install all of the content from the disc onto your console and also ensure that you have the GOTY content installed.”

This process is the same but, as of this writing, the Game of the Year Edition Legacy Pack is on the system store by itself. This includes the same stuff as the regular Legacy Pack (including the Blood Money Requiem Pack) but also comes with the Patient Zero campaign, three themed escalation contracts, three extra outfits, and three more weapons. This is obviously based on the Game of the Year Edition extra content IO Interactive released in November 2017.

If you have the regular Legacy Pack and want the Game of the Year Legacy Pack, you can upgrade and get the extra content listed above for $9.99. This option is available on your system’s store and is handy for those who got the first season but didn’t get around to the newer Game of the Year content. Hitman 2 disc owners who want this option have to use the Hitman 2 in-game store. Digital owners can go through the platform store or the in-game store.

There is even an option for people to buy the Hitman 1 missions even if they didn’t own the game at all. You can also buy the Hitman Game of the Year Legacy Pack for $19.99 on the store if you never purchased the original game. This will get you all of the aforementioned Hitman Game of the Year content.

What Transfers Between Hitman 1 and Hitman 2

Sadly, your progress will not transfer between games. You’re just essentially getting the same missions placed in Hitman 2 but with none of your challenges, completed feats, or suits. However, you can unlock a majority of the same suits from those stages and use them between both sets of missions.

There are also special unlocks for those coming back for Hitman 2. If you’ve completed any Elusive Target in the last Hitman, you’ll get a fancy Black Winter Suit. All returning Hitman owners will receive an Aluminium Travel Briefcase, which has stickers referencing that last game. It is used to conceal illegal items and can be selected in the Gear tab in the Planning part of the menu before a mission.

Why Aren’t My Legacy Missions Working in Hitman 2?

While not covered in the FAQ, there is a slight possibility that your Hitman 1 Legacy Missions might not work in Hitman 2 once you’ve downloaded them on PS4. Hitman 2 will acknowledge that you have installed the Legacy Pack missions but won’t let you play them, which can be quite confusing. To fix this on PS4, you’ll have to restore your licenses. On the PS4 system dashboard, go to Settings, Account Management, and then Restore Licenses. They should work after that. This will usually fix issues when content that should work on PS4, but does not.
