Star Wars Visions canon

Is Star Wars: Visions canon?

So is Star Wars: Visions canon or non-canon? The epic new Star Wars anime series releases on September 22 and just got an epic new trailer, along with confirmation that well-known characters such as Boba Fett would be making an appearance in the animated series. However, will Star Wars: Visions be canon? Is Star Wars: Visions non-canon? This question seems to have fans confused, so let’s try and clear it up.

Will Star Wars: Visions be canon or non-canon?

Star Wars Visions canon

Star Wars: Visions will most likely be considered canon by Lucasfilm when it launches next month.

While it has not been outright confirmed by Lucasfilm, the studio has previously stated that all Star Wars projects now produced since the Disney takeover are canon. This includes all novels, games such as Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and Disney Plus shows such as The Bad Batch. While the status of Visions as canon is a little more unclear, as Lucasfilm describes the stories in Visions as a “unique vision” of the Japanese studios, the fact that it has not outright said that the series is non-canon should be taken as an assurance that it is actually canon.

Lucasfilm’s James Waugh actually states that the Visions stories “expands our understanding of what a Star Wars story can be,” further suggesting that the studio considers the series to be canon — despite how outlandish and crazy the events in Visions seem to be. Lucasfilm also probably wouldn’t allow a popular character like Boba Fett to be used, in his first appearance since The Mandalorian, if it didn’t closely oversee how he would be portrayed.

Star Wars: Visions launches exclusively on Disney Plus on September 22. While there still hasn’t been confirmation of any new Star Wars movies or games, The Bad Batch will get a Season 2 and Mandalorian spin-off The Book of Boba Fett is due out later this year.
