While some analysts have doubted the sales potential of consoles in the modern era, Sony's PS4 has proven time and time again that there's room for a 16+ million units sold per year console.
As a result of the PS4 meeting its sales objectives for the last year, DFC Intelligence has published a journal which estimates that the PS4 will have sold over 100 million units by the time this generation is said and done. If true, this would place it in in a prestigious list of only six gaming hardware that have ever surpassed the 100 million mark, which includes only three home consoles.
Although the PS4 has sold well during its first two years on the market, it hasn't been until this year that its first-party exclusive line-up has met expectations with upcoming releases such as Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, The Last Guardian, Persona 4, and Gran Turismo Sport. This software, combined with the console's new price point at $349, should help propel it to even higher volume.
