NPD Group: Xbox One Just Outsold the PS4 For Its Third Month In a Row

Microsoft has seen a dramatic increase in demand for the Xbox One following the release of its Xbox One S, a slimmed down and more efficient version of its current generation console. During the past two months this has resulted in the company earning back valuable market share in the U.S. This momentum doesn't appear to have stopped, and in anything is accelerating if this month's NPD Group stats are any indication.

Microsoft has confirmed that the Xbox One was the best-selling console in September, resulting in the platform leading for three months in a row.

In addition to strong hardware numbers, Forza Horizon 3 topped software charts following remarkably positive reception that carried it to a 91 Metascore. These factors combined made for 57% year over year growth in multiplayer users on Xbox Live.

The PS4 still leads in market share worldwide, and is sure to see a boon from the upcoming release of the PS4 Pro in November. If nothing else, Xbox is firmly placing its foot in a doorway that Sony was trying to shut, ensuring that it remains not only a relevant but prominent figure in the gaming industry.
