PS4 Hits 53.4 Million Units Sold During Holiday 2016 While Uncharted 4 Soars To 8.7 Million

Recent sales charts have indicated that the PS4 put on a strong holiday performance to end 2016. Sony has now stepped in to reveal just how well the season went for the PlayStation brand.

The PS4 sold an industry leading 6.2 million units during the 2016 holiday season. This was largely driven by a $249 Uncharted 4: A Thief's End bundle, but also saw participation from the launch of the PS4 Pro during the period.

As a result, the PS4 is now at 53.4 million units sold worldwide, a jump of 3.4 million over the last total released by Sony in early December. The eighth generation console is now on its way to becoming one of the top 5 best-selling home consoles of all-time.

Sony noted that the PS4 has been responsible for over 50 million games sold at retail, the king of which is Uncharted 4: A Thief's End standing tall at 8.7 million units. Within eight months it has become this generation's best-selling exclusive title.
