Harrison Assures Gamers That Microsoft Is Still Committed To Games

Microsoft isn't fooling anyone. Over the past couple of years, it has become readily apparent that the Xbox 360 is the company's Trojan Horse intended to invade our living rooms and take over as the default entertainment box. As such, a bulk of the gaming community has grown concerned with regard to the Xbox's gradual shift away from gaming as the company embraces other forms of media including music, movies and a whole host of social networking apps.

Xbox executive Phil Harrison recently spoke to Edge in an effort to quell the fears of gamers who are adverse to these dramatic changes. “I have no concerns about what that means for gamers, whether they’re core gamers or casual gamers or somewhere in between,” Harrison explained. “This E3, we have announced that our top five franchises are all returning on Xbox 360 within the next 12 months, and I don’t know of many times in a platform’s history when that has happened, whether on Xbox or any other console."

Harrison pointed to new installments in the Gears of War, Halo, Fable, Dance Central and Forza franchises as evidence of their commitment to games. While that's all well and good, I can't help but wonder where all of the fresh new content is. Call me crazy, but I think a few new IPs from Microsoft would be a bit more exciting than a slew of sequels.
