Project Octopath Traveler Survey Hints at Being Bravely Default Sequel

Earlier this week, Nintendo hosted its fall Direct where it unveiled some new titles, in addition to more information and release dates for already announced titles coming later this year or in 2018.

In the midst of the Direct, Project Octopath Traveler was spotlighted as one of the main focuses. Among the new information about its characters and gameplay, it was revealed that a demo would be available later that same day.

The Project Octopath Traveler demo allows you to choose between playing as the warrior Olberic or the dancer Primrose that were featured in its latest trailer. Their paths are totally different, and highlight each of their unique gameplay features: duels and allure.

Of course, we downloaded the demo to preview this still-in-development game. Just a short two days after the Wednesday Nintendo Direct, Nintendo has sent out a survey to us regarding the demo on behalf of publisher Square Enix.

The survey will be sent to anyone who downloads the demo for Project Octopath Traveler, with your actual responses sent to Square Enix anonymously. It’s important to note that you can only complete the survey once, as it sends you to your unique link. Your responses have the opportunity to affect the development of the game.

The survey begins by asking which of the two paths you chose, or if you did both. From there, it asks the usual questions you’d expect like what you didn’t like about it and what you did; your favorite, least favorite, etc.

It also asks what you’d like to see in the full game, which is your best chance to include your personal hopes and wishes. But the most interesting set of questions are at the very end. The survey asks if you know or have played Bravely Default and Bravely Second on 3DS.

This is most likely due to the fact that Project Octopath Traveler comes from the same producers as the Bravely Default series. As the title for the game is still a work-in-progress, it might even be possible that Square Enix could be hinting at this “HD-2D” game being in the same series.

Even more fascinating is that the official Bravely Default Japanese Twitter posted the above picture shortly after the Direct’s conclusion.  What do you think? Would you like Octopath Traveler to be its own thing or be a part of the Bravely Default series?
