The Pokémon Company Addresses Why There’s No Pokémon Title For Wii U

There's a reason why all of the main entries in the Pokémon franchise have remain tied to Nintendo's handheld devices, and no, it's not because Game Freak hates you.

In an interview with Game Informer, The Pokémon Company International director of consumer marketing, J.C. Smith, explained why the latest entry in the Pokémon series is not coming to the Wii U.

I can’t speak to the specifics, but traditionally Game Freak has always loved the game to be on a portable device because of the communication, trading, and the experience of taking this adventure with you. That’s why they’ve always prioritized a portable version of the game first. They’ve always liked what you can do in the real world with that.

It comes down to what the creators want to do. Every time I’ve heard them talk about it, it’s been about the portable experience, taking the adventure with you, being able to share it with friends, communicate, trade, battle – really encouraging that interaction.

Now, of course, that doesn't mean that we'll never see a proper Pokémon title come to the Wii U, especially when considering the possibilities that the GamePad's NFC capabilities offer. Would you like to see this happen, or should Pokémon remain tethered to handhelds? Let us know in the comments below.
