Xbox One’s Kinect Is Super Refined, Maybe Even A Core Selling Point

So the Xbox One has been revealed. So why should you own one? Well, if Microsoft's conference is any indication it's the new Kinect experience.

Microsoft spent the 15 minutes following the announcement of Xbox One's nomenclature to talk about Kinect's thorough integration. Voice commands can turn on the console, switch between applications, and even initiate a call with friends through Skype—remember, Microsoft purchased Skype in 2011.

The new Kinect won't only boast improvements in voice commands, though. The sensor is incredibly precise, reducing latency and adding accuracy to movement calculation over the last version of Kinect. It's so sensitive that it can even detect your heartbeat.

In terms of its hardware, Microsoft labels it as 'rocket science-level stuff' with 1080p support at 30FPS and a wide-angle view.

So is Xbox One all about Kinect? Well, no. But it's an area where Microsoft has spent an enormous amount of R&D funds. After seeing the press conference it's apparent that it'll be what is advertised most often as a reason for owning the console, so get used to hearing the name.
