EA Apologizes for “Unacceptable” and “Stupid” April Fools Joke Leveled at Nintendo

In celebration of April Fools' Day, the folks over at DICE posted a joke on Twitter that wasn't afraid to make light of the fact that Electronic Arts has essentially abandoned Nintendo's tablet-centric gaming console.

The string of Tweets, which have since been pulled, read:

Frostbite now runs on #WiiU since it is the most powerful Gen4 platform. Our renderer is now optimised for Mario and Zelda.

Frostbite will power #HalfLife3, coming out summer 2014!
#WiiU exclusive.

Good news, we have finally fixed and optimised our 'netcode'. Uses quantum entanglement for Zero Latency connections. Exclusively on #WiiU.

EA's Peter Moore then took to Twitter to offer a formal apology for the joke, calling it "stupid" and "unacceptable."

You can bet that DICE's joke caused quite a stir among the Nintendo faithful, forcing Electronic Arts to respond in the way it did.

You see? This is why I dread April Fools each and every year. Sure, you may find a few laughs here and there, but it's simply not worth the drama it stirs up.
