American Gamers Prefer Physical Games Over Digital

Gamers in North America still prefer retail boxed games over digital, according to a new report from The NPD Group.

When given the choice between either a digital or physical copy of a game at the same asking price, 74 percent of gamers will opt for the boxed copy. That said, interest in digital games is reportedly on the rise, with an overall 5 percent increase in digital sales when compared to last year.

"Core gamers are an important part of the games industry, and understanding their behavior is critical to anyone invested in the games space," analyst Liam Callahan explained, "especially considering the launch of the new consoles and the continued evolution of digital gaming."
