Sony Passed on EA Access Because It’s Not a Good Value

Electronic Arts announced just yesterday that EA Access, a new subscription-based service you can
read about here, will be coming soon to Xbox One. Oddly enough, however, there was no mention of it coming to PlayStation 4.

While I'm sure many of you, like myself, assumed that this was likely due to some sort of exclusivity deal Microsoft struck up with EA, that apparently isn't the case. In fact, according to Sony, the company actually passed on the service because it doesn't believe it's a good value for the consumer.

A company rep provided the following statement to GameInformer:

We evaluated the EA Access subscription offering and decided that it does not bring the kind of value PlayStation customers have come to expect.

PlayStation Plus memberships are up more than 200 per cent since the launch of PlayStation 4, which shows that gamers are looking for memberships that offer a multitude of services, across various devices, for one low price.

We don't think asking our fans to pay an additional $5 a month for this EA-specific program represents good value to the PlayStation gamer.

What are your thoughts on EA Access? Do you think $5 a month for access to EA's back catalog is a good value? Could Sony be making a mistake by not embracing this service?
