Sony Patents Interactive PlayStation Doll

Sony doesn't mind taking chances with new and interesting products. But this recently discovered patent shows one of their weirdest and creepiest ideas yet.

An old patent filed in 2008 has surfaced, showing an interactive PlayStation "doll". The doll, which took inspiration from the failed Microsoft ActiMates, would interact with a user and their in-game actions. It would also feature storage media, external ports like USB or Ethernet, an on-board processor, and Wi-Fi or Bluetooth to connect with a PS3 or other devices.

That's pretty standard fare for an interactive anything, but here's where it gets weird (aside from that creepy-ass picture mock-up from the patent)… it can sense human touch, and have a refillable liquid reservoir and a means to release the liquid. It sounds very sex-toyish to us, but the patent suggests tears as a usage. More than likely they're just covering all angles for future uses.

Remember, this patent is from 2008, so it's very unlikely that this idea will ever make it to retail. Sony was granted the patent, so anything is possible.

Let us know how you could see this used in today's games.
