Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 DLC Canceled, Aspyr Issues Statement

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords on the Nintendo Switch was supposed receive the Restored Content DLC that fans had added to the unfinished PC version, which was infamously fraught with issues. However, that DLC has now been canceled, and Aspyr Media has issued a statement on the matter.

The Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 Restored Content DLC has been canned

Aspyr tweeted the news and offered those who have bought the game on Nintendo Switch a complimentary game key for one Star Wars game. Only people who purchased the game before this announcement are eligible to apply through Aspyr’s support page, but the exact process hasn’t been spelled out. All of these replacement key are for the Switch, although players can also opt to get a copy of Knights of the Old Republic 2 on PC. These games include:

  • Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 (PC)
  • Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
  • Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
  • Star Wars: Republic Commando
  • Star Wars: Episode I Racer
  • Star Wars: Jedi Knight Academy
  • Star Wars: Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast

Aspyr offered no concrete reasons why the DLC was canceled even after it had long since missed its Q3 2022 release window. Many fans were disappointed, as this content was announced with the Switch port. Some had even assumed shortly before this announcement that the DLC had been axed since mentions of it were recently silently edited out of Aspyr’s YouTube channel. Other versions of the trailer (and its description) still mention the DLC, meaning Aspyr had changed it behind the scenes.

The Restored Content DLC is based on a fan mod on PC that applied various technical fixes and reintegrated content that was initially cut. Many have lauded this mod, and Asypr had also expressed support for it in the past. Aspyr product manager Michael Blair said the studio reached out to modders Zbigniew Staniewicz and Hassat Hunter to get them on board for the game’s 2015 update on Steam that added achievements and Steam Workshop support. Staniewicz and Hunter were able to make sure the mod ran smoothly through Steam Workshop because Aspyr reached out early.
