With the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 launching within the next two weeks, it's easy to forget the longstanding handheld console war between the Vita and the 3DS. It may already be a foregone conclusion that the Nintendo 3DS has won and that pitching any article that pits the 3DS against the Vita is just treating Sony like a slapstick. But even if Vita is far behind in second place in the handheld market, it's a place where it's at least winning against Microsoft. That's sort of unfair, sure, but a win is a win and the PlayStation 4 can leverage a handheld companion while the Xbox One cannot.
That said, the lineups for both handheld systems don't disappoint. Though the Vita could always use more titles, Tearaway is looking amazing (through word of mouth from Anthony) and the Ys series still holds up as a strong action RPG. It's also the only handheld that will have Injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition, which I just realized yesterday and may thus purchase in two weeks.
The 3DS, of course, has The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds which every Zelda fan, let alone every Nintendo fan, has already given their blessing. Coupling that with the simultaneous release of Mario Party Island Tour and 3DS owners will have two reasons to stop playing Pokemon X and Y, and Animal Crossing: New Leaf (I'm looking at you, Daniel!).
