The next Fallout 76 update is bringing a lot of changes.

Next Fallout 76 Update Detailed By Bethesda, Future Update Plans Discussed

Bethesda Game Studios has broken radio silence on Fallout 76, and outlined details on a light roadmap for the game. A big Fallout 76 update is planned to release next week on December 4 that will allegedly fix a ton of bugs and make some other small adjustments. This has been one of the first steps that Bethesda has taken to try to reverse or spin the largely negative reception that Fallout 76 has gotten since its launch.

In a post on the game’s subreddit, Bethesda published a long piece regarding future communication and upcoming patches. The patch will bring various fixes to the game like increasing the player stash limit from 400 to 600, which the developer admits is “conservative.” The low increase is to ensure that game stability is not negatively impacted, and the studio plans to increase the stash limit further in the future. Fixes to boss loot, Cryolator effects, and issues with respawning while overencumbered will arrive in the update. A swath of other performance, stability, and bug fixes are expected with next week’s update.

December 11 will also see another large Fallout 76 update. That update will bring the requisite stability and bug fixes, alongside changes and additions to the game. The PC version will see 21:9 resolution support, push-t0-talk voice chat, and the implementation of field of view settings. Players above level 50 will be able to respec SPECIAL points instead of gathering new perk cards upon leveling up. Two new C.A.M.P. features will be added as well; Bulldozer will let players remove small obstructions like trees and rocks to more easily build, and changes to placement on login will ensure the player C.A.M.P. is exactly where they want it.

The developer also addressed community frustration with the game’s state at launch, and the lack of post-launch communication.

“We know you’re frustrated and angry at the state of things right now, whether it’s the issues you’re running into in the game, or the lack of communication about fixes, updates, or news,” said the developer. “To be clear, this account is run by us, Bethesda Game Studios community team. Yesterday we posted to let you know that we’re still here gathering your feedback and, more importantly, working to get info from the team we can share. We didn’t want you to think the silence meant nothing was happening. We’re sorry and understand this was not the right approach, and we’ll work to make a better bridge between you and the dev team at BGS.”

Next week’s Fallout 76 update will be the first step in the right direction for the online-only title. The game has been mired by technical problems, communication issues, and negative press since beta. Hopefully it can overcome these and become the game Bethesda, and many in the community, want it to be.
