Final Fantasy VII Remake Confirms Legendary Nobuo Uematsu as Music Composer

Most Final Fantasy re-releases have had modern re-imaginings of their music. The Final Fantasy VII Remake will probably feature brand new music since Square Enix has been developing the game from the ground up. However, we have had no confirmation on who the composer might be. A recent development has confirmed that legendary composer Nobuo Uematsu is working on the highly-anticipated game.

Twitter user @aibo_ac7 revealed the news earlier today. In a recent interview, Final Fantasy VII Remake producer Yoshinori Kitase spilled the beans on Nobuo Uematsu’s involvement in developing music for the game. The interview text has been translated from Japanese to English, thanks to Siliconera.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Nobuo Uematsu: The Interview Excerpt

Kitase said: “I’ve worked on numerous titles with Uematsu-san, and while I’m currently working on the production of Final Fantasy VII Remake, it’s actually been since Final Fantasy X that I directly worked with Uematsu-san. So when I first went to ask Uematsu-san to come work on the music for the remake, I thought he would give me the cold shoulder since he had already left Square Enix and found success.”

Final Fantasy VII Remake Nobuo Uematsu: Why Is It A Big Deal?

The Final Fantasy VII Remake actually marks the long-awaited return of Nobuo Uematsu to the long-running franchise after the legendary composer left Square Enix back in 2004. Uematsu fully composed the music for all titles in the series until Final Fantasy IX in 2000. He later worked on Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy XI but he had several co-composers for those games.

It certainly looks like the Final Fantasy VII Remake is a long way off from the official release. This is due to the fact that Square Enix was still hiring “active core members” in March 2018 when they posted job listings. Attendees of The Final Fantasy “Farewell Stories” 30th Anniversary Exhibition in February 2018 recently claimed that the developers are changing Cloud’s design. Unfortunately, they still haven’t revealed the images.
