Resident Evil 2 Remake Gives Capcom Producer “Daily Headaches”

Capcom producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi holds Resident Evil 2 close to his heart which he describes as "the first Resident Evil I played" in an interview with VideoGamer. So not only is remaking the game not just about meeting his own expectations, but "the task of bringing that to the fans all over again is a cause of daily headaches."

The recent HD remake of Resident Evil is highly regarded as an strong example of how to do remakes correctly, with an OpenCritic score of 81 and GameRevolution score of 4 stars out of 5. For Hirabayashi, it is in fact "proof that a remaster can recapture the original game."

He believes that the key to remaking any Resident Evil title correctly—and listen up, other developers, because this applies to your games too!—is to check "not just the audio-visual assets, but the programming code for each stage, and analysing the pacing that makes it such a great experience." Or as Resident Evil 2 programmer Hiroyuki Kobayashi describes, to "understand" the intentions of the original game.

The remake for Resident Evil 2 has no release date yet. If the Resident Evil HD Remake is any indication, we should expect the remake to be at least on PS4, Xbox One, and PC (not sure on PS3 and Xbox 360).
