Demon’s Souls Servers Reach A Bonfire, Remains Online

The online servers for Demon's Souls were meant to go offline at the end of May, in less than a week. But Atlus, in all its glory, has announced that the servers will remain on for the "forseeable future", which might as well mean "indefinitely, until fans stop being fans".

Tim Pivnicny, Vice President of Marketing and Sales at Atlus, is likewise surprised at this turnaround:

We're incredibly excited to be able to announce that the Demon's Souls online experience will persist for a while longer. While it originally seemed as though it would be unfeasible for us to continue to sustain the servers, a number of developments have made it possible for us to continue to invest in and support our fans as they have continued to invest in and support us and Demon's Souls.

For all the gamers who have yet to discover the game's amazing online experience, we're happy to say you can still log on and find out why Demon's Souls is still regarded by many as one of the finest games of all time.

It's sad to say but the servers will need to be severed at some point. That this isn't now means doesn't mean it will delay the inevitable. I hope, though, that Atlus keeps the servers on until at least the next Souls game.
