Miyamoto Wants To Make A First-Person Shooter

Believe it or not, but Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Donkey Kong, Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, and Pikmin, told Kotaku that he wants to make a first-person shooter.

"I actually do kind of want to make a first-person shooter, but I don't have time," he said to Kotaku at E3 last week.

Of course, don't think that he wants to create a gritty, super-violent shooter like Call of Duty or BioShock. That would be too weird. He's more interested in that camera angle than anything else. "I think that the structure of a first-person shooter is something that's very interesting," he said. "Having that 3D space that in theory you are in and being able to look around and explore that—particularly being able to do that in conjunction with another person—is very interesting." (I think he finds it interesting…just a hunch.)

This really should come as a surprise to no one, especially with all of the rumors floating around for years before Skyward Sword that the next Legend of Zelda game would be solely from the first-person point of view. Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword have elements of FP, but the game isn't entirely set in that mode. Of course, you can't forget his collaboration with Retro Studios in building the FPS Metroid game, Metroid Prime.

It's definitely possible with the Wii U, as ZombiU has shown, but let's not take from ZombiU's example, mmkay?
