Wii U Day One Patch Download Is A Whopping 5GB

Those of you looking to pick up a Wii U, throw it in your media center, and begin enjoying the next generation are in for a rude awakening.

Upon booting up the Wii U a mandatory firmware update needs to be downloaded which weighs in at an absurd 5GB. Inherently, you'll spend your first hour or two downloading and applying the update before you can dive in and begin enjoying your big purchase.

Forums are flooded with people patiently waiting for the download to complete. Those with slower bandwidth speeds are really in a sore spot with the update taking an entire night.
